The story, based on true events, unfolds in Santa Elena de Monteverde, a small tourist town in the Costa Rican rainforest. The narrative revolves around police officer Oscar Fallas, nicknamed “Maquinna, the killing machine,” and his best friend, a key figure in the country’s presidential security.
The plot takes a tragic turn on May 8, 2005, when three heavily armed Nicaraguan brothers launch a violent bank robbery in Monteverde, resulting in casualties and hostages. The president dispatches a tactical team, led by Oscar Fallas, to handle the crisis. After intense negotiations and a televised rescue operation, the team faces a heartbreaking loss—Maquinna sacrifices his life to save a hostage.
Six years later, the team faces another crisis involving prison hostages. In a twist of fate, they discover that one of the deceased kidnappers is the same person responsible for the Monteverde massacre and Maquinna’s death.
