Monteverde Bravery Sinopsys

Monteverde Bravery” is a gripping film inspired by the book “A Mano Armado” written by Mr. Huanelge Gutierrez. The story, based on true events, unfolds in Santa Elena de Monteverde, a small tourist town in the Costa Rican rainforest. The narrative revolves around police officer Oscar Fallas, nicknamed “Maquinna, the killing machine,” and his best friend, a key figure in the country’s presidential security.
The plot takes a tragic turn on May 8, 2005, when three heavily armed Nicaraguan brothers launch a violent bank robbery in Monteverde, resulting in casualties and hostages. The president dispatches a tactical team, led by Oscar Fallas, to handle the crisis. After intense negotiations and a televised rescue operation, the team faces a heartbreaking loss—Maquinna sacrifices his life to save a hostage.
Six years later, the team faces another crisis involving prison hostages. In a twist of fate, they discover that one of the deceased kidnappers is the same person responsible for the Monteverde massacre and Maquinna’s death. The revelation brings a sense of closure and divine justice to Monteverde, providing solace to the grieving community and the family of Maquinna.

“Monteverde Bravery” explores themes of tragedy, sacrifice, and justice, weaving a compelling narrative inspired by real-life events.

After nearly three months of court proceedings that forced witnesses, victims and the country to relive one of Costa Rica’s most shocking incidents, in November Erlyn Hurtado was sentenced to 210 years in prison for his attempted bank robbery turned bloody hostage crisis in the sleepy tourist town of Santa Elena.

Monteverde Bravery

Is adapted from a book authored by Huanelgue Gutierrez, a former officer of the UEI Special Intervention Unit, Police Department of Costa Rica. Mr. Gutierrez was an integral part of the rescue team during a pivotal moment in Costa Rica’s history when the nation experienced its first-ever live robbery situation lasting 48 harrowing hours, resulting in the kidnapping of 36 individuals and the tragic loss of 9 lives.

This incident marked one of the darkest days in the history of the Costa Rican Police Academy, as it saw the sacrifice of one of its most esteemed officers, affectionately known as ‘La Máquina’ (The Machine). We’ve meticulously crafted this narrative to honor the event as a source of inspiration, highlighting courage, sacrifice, and the indomitable spirit of a true hero. It is our hope that this story will resonate with and inspire the youth, encouraging them to follow in the footsteps of a real-life hero.”
